Flag focuses the pictorial investigation on the flag of the Spanish Republic (1931-1939), a democratic government that endured a military coup, abandoned by Europe and swallowed by fascism during the Spanish Civil War. It is therefore the symbol of a country which no longer exists, of a collective dream of modernity and enlightened values such as freedom, equality, justice, emancipation and education, crushed by the most reactionary Spain with the assistance of international fascism. Later came the long night of Franco’s dictatorship and the western democratic nations again looked the other way.
